Internet Safety Tips

The internet can be a great place to find all types of information. You can use the internet to order deliveries to your home. You can use the internet to do all of your homework and read the daily news. The internet is a great place to watch television or play games with other people. Adults even use the internet to help them find love. With all of the great things that the internet offers, there are many dangers that are lurking online that everyone needs to be careful for. There are predators and all types of bad people lurking in the anonymous shadows otherwise known as the internet and you need to know how to protect yourself.

As a parent, your number one responsibility is to protect your child from anything that you possibly can. The children have such easy access to the internet. They can use the internet at school or in libraries, but there is also a lot of access outside of these environments. A lot of children have their own computers with access to the internet or at least have access through their smartphones. One of the best things you can do is make sure that your child’s computer is in a high access area so that you can monitor what they are doing online. There are programs that can help you limit access to different sites or set time limits for your child so that you can add an extra layer of protection. You should also be vigilant in monitoring their social media, text messages, and emails to ensure your child stays safe. Be sure to teach your child basic rules of internet safety like not revealing full names, ages, phone number, or address.

These rules are also important to remember for yourself. You also need to remember to keep all of your personal information private. This information can not only increase your chances for becoming a victim of identity theft, but it will also increase your chances of becoming a victim of cyber-stalking. When you share photos of yourself, be sure to not include any identifiable information in the background that can help someone who is cyber-stalking you into your direction. You should also remember to watch out for phishing scams. This is how scammers can get your information in order to steal your identity. If you meet someone online, remember to meet them in a very public place where you can be protected in case something happens. You should remember to tell friends and family where this date is going to take place so that someone can check in on you at some point in the evening.

It is so important to be as cautious online as you would be out in the real world. There are real dangers that you can face online and you want to make sure that you and your family are safe from these seemingly unknown dangers. By taking these simple precautions, you can help keep yourself and your loved ones safe.
