5 Easy Ways on How to Get Rid of Dandruff

White flakes like snow or powder on your scalp or hair? They’re called dandruff.

Dandruff can be one of those annoying diseases. It is generally more of an aesthetic problem than a medical one. Though it doesn’t bring you much pain, it’s embarrassing for others to see that you have it, more so if you’re wearing black or a dark-colored top. Also, in severe cases, the itchiness can push you to scratch your scalp so often that leads to hair fall.

To overcome dandruff, you have to know about the main mechanism of formation of dandruff first and foremost. In this article, you’ll also learn about how to overcome dandruff using natural ways of treatment.

Causes of Dandruff

There are a number of different factors that cause dandruff problems. Physicians infer that people who are constipated, stressed and those who don’t have enough zinc and vitamin B content in the body most often have dandruff. Moreover, the production of skin oil, perspiration, dirty environment and hormonal changes are some of the most common ones. In some other instances, dandruff is also possibly caused by other serious problems such as dermatitis, psoriasis, fungal or even head lice infection.

How Dandruff is Created

Once our skin cells regenerate on the scalp, they are pushed outside as flakes. Minimum amount results for normal individuals. But if you’re one who has dandruff problems, the flakes coming out of your scalp pores are in excessive amount mixed with the oil from the skin cells.

How to Overcome Dandruff

Here are a few measures you have to follow to remove those flakes on your scalp:

1.    Regularly wash your hair with anti-dandruff shampoo.

If you have sensitive skin, chances are, you also have a sensitive scalp. So before using any commercialized anti-dandruff shampoo there is in the market, check if it has the following contents: zinc  pyrithione, selenium sulphide, ketaconazole, salicyclic acid, Tea tree oil and piroctone olamine.

If it does have at least one of them, then you can check with your doctor if it’s safe for you to use. Otherwise, using thee shampoo might exacerbate the problem due to the allergic reaction to the chemical ingredients in the products.

Once you got the right anti-dandruff shampoo solution, massage your scalp while washing your hair. Wait for five minutes before rinsing your hair with water.

2.    Brush your hair frequently.

After showering, comb your hair twice to help remove the flakes from the hair. This will help remove any debris from your hair which in turn reduces the dandruff problem. In addition, brushing also improves circulation. It will expose more of your scalp to the air and sunlight, helping your scalp to “breathe.”

3.    Try home remedies.
  • Apply two tablespoons of green gram powder mixed with curd to form a paste. Leave the mixture for about ten minutes on your hair before rinsing with water.
  • Soak two tablespoons of Fenugreek seeds in water overnight. In the next morning, ground the seeds into a fine paste. Apply this paste all over the scalp and leave on your hair for half an hour. Wash hair thoroughly with soap-nut solution or acacia concinna.
  • Take regular anti-dandruff shampooing procedure as mentioned in Item 1 above. Then, extract lime and mix with water to form lime juice and apply it to your scalp. Leave it for a few minutes until dried before rinsing with water.
  • Dilute cider vinegar with an equal quantity of water (as a conditioner) and dab this on to hair with a cotton wool in between shampooing.
4.    Have a balanced diet.

Diet plays a vital role in the treatment of dandruff. If you want to get rid of dandruff, you should resort to a high intake of fruit diet for one week straight. Fresh fruits such as apples, orange, grapes, pears, pineapples and grapefruits are highly recommended.

On the other hand, avoid taking bananas and citrus fruits, strong tea/coffee, pickles, refined and processed foods. This is to have regular bowel movement and remove toxins from your body.

5.    De-stress yourself!

Stress can cause imbalances in hormonal system which can trigger dandruff problems. Reduce your stress, dandruff will be cured more easily. Yoga and exercise are very good for reducing the stress.
